Miriam: PNP chief Purisima should vacate White House out of ‘delicadeza’

Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago on Friday said Philippine National Police chief Director General Alan Purisima should leave his official quarters, dubbed as the White House, inside Camp Crame as he has been preventively suspended from his duties.

At a press briefing on Wednesday, the feisty senator said, "If the suspension order has been handed down, out of delicadeza, he should move out."

"Hindi siya dapat doon mag-stay kasi all of these are inherent with the position," she added.

Earlier, reports quoted PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor as saying as of Thursday morning, Purisima remains at his official residence inside Camp Crame.

Last week, the Office of the Ombudsman ordered the preventive suspension of Purisima and several other police officials for six months in connection with the alleged anomalous contract the PNP entered into with the courier service company Werfast Documentary Agency in 2011.

In a press statement issued on Sunday, Purisima denied any involvement in entering a contract with Werfast.

He said the contract between the PNP and Werfast was executed on May 25, 2011, or more than a year before he was appointed by President Benigno Aquino III as the chief of the PNP on December 18, 2012. —KG, GMA News
