Campbell's cadaver being thawed for autopsy
The cadaver of a female US Peace Corps volunteer found in Banaue, Ifugao is now being thawed at the Loyola Memorial Chapels in Guadalupe, Makati City. Police Chief Supt. Arturo Cacdac Jr, head of the Philippine National Police Crime Laboratory Group, told radio dzBB on Saturday that the thawing of Julia Campbell's cadaver will take about three to four hours, before it could undergo autopsy. Campbell's body was earlier frozen to prevent fast decomposition. Cacdac said the post-mortem examination will not take nine days, as earlier reported. "Na-freeze kasi s'ya...matigas pa yung bangkay...Hindi aabutin ng gabi ito, matatapos ngayong araw ito," Cacdac said in an interview with dzBB. Cacdac said all the local forensic experts are now "ready" for the autopsy, while Us forensic experts will be at the Loyola morgue to observe the post-mortem examination. After the thawing, Cacdac said Campbell's body will undergo finger printing, dental forensics and DNA sampling. He said Campbell's remains will be turned over to the US Peace Corps after the autopsy. Cacdac said the organization with the assistance of the US Embassy will be responsible for all the "administrative matters" concerning Campbell's remains. Campbell, 40, was found dead on Wednesday morning near a creek at Batad village, after it was reported missing since April 8. She had served as a peace corps volunteer in the Philippines since March 2005. - GMANews.TV
