Bunye’s relative faces disqualification in Parañaque vice-mayoral race

A relative of Press Secretary Ignacio Bunye running for vice mayor in Parañaque City, is facing disqualification complaint over his Filipino citizenship. In an eight-page complaint filed before the Commission on Elections (Comelec) National Capital Region (NCR) office, Laarni Manlangit of Barangay Moonwalk claimed that Bunye’s relative Gustavo Tambunting is allegedly an American citizen. Tambunting, a former Parañaque councilor and a son of a sister of Bunye’s mother, is running against incumbent vice mayor and comedian Anjo Yllana. Manlangit said Tambunting traveled in the United States twice in 2001 using an American passport. She said Tambunting also failed to indicate his Philippine address in the flight manifest everytime he travels. “Tambunting should not be considered as a candidate. He is a foreigner," Manlangit said. Manlangit said Tambunting has secured a US passport with no. 1207579660, which was issued in December 2000 in Honolulu, Hawaii. She said Tambunting, in an affidavit submitted to the Bureau of Immigration, has admitted that he is not a natural-born Filipino citizen when he ran for councilor in 2001 and 2004 elections, respectively, where he both won. - GMANews.TV
