NDRRMC: One confirmed dead, one missing in Seniang's wake


At least one person was confirmed dead while another was reported missing in the wake of Tropical Storm Seniang (Jangmi), the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said Tuesday.
 
In its Tuesday morning bulletin, the NDRRMC identified the fatality as Mik Cipriano, 65, of Barangay Naboc in Monkayo town in Compostela Valley.
 
Cipriano drowned last Sunday, Dec. 28. 
 
Missing is Chris Retiza, 24, of Zone 3, Purok, Poblacion in Compostela Valley. He was reported missing while crossing the river also last Sunday.
 
The NDRRMC added that Seniang caused the preemptive evacuation of 868 families to 31 evacuation centers in Central Visayas, Region 9, and Caraga.
 
Seniang had affected 5,529 families or 23,629 people in Regions 7, 10, 11 and Caraga, added the agency.
 
Floods, landslides
 
Parts of Surigao del Sur, Agusan del Norte and Agusan del Sur and Lanao del Sur were flooded. Flash floods hit Lanao del Sur.
 
Landslides rendered roads in parts of Surigao del Sur and Agusan del Sur impassable. Landslides also occurred in Leyte and Southern Leyte, but roads there remained passable.
 
At least 12 houses were damaged, while one was destroyed in Monkayo.
