LTO: Apply for new standardized license plate when renewing vehicle registration
Motorists renewing their vehicle registration for 2015 will be required to apply for the replacement of their old license plates for the new standardized plates.
The reminder came from the Land Transportation Office, which said only vehicles due for renewal shall be allowed to apply for the replacement of the plates.
"Motor vehicles that have already renewed their registration for January 2015 shall have the option of applying for the replacement in the next registration year at any LTO district office or at any time prior to thereto by going back to the same LTO district office where the renewal of its registration was last effected," it said.
Replacement of the plates will cost P450, the agency said.
It added the new standardized license plates and third plate sticker and plate locks will be released in 45 days from the date of the renewal of registration.
The LTO said the vehicle's registered owner will be responsible for installing the new standardized plates.
"However, the attachment of any unauthorized plate(s) or any accessory or device to and/or around the authorized motor vehicle license plate, or any manner of attachment that impedes in any way the visibility or reflectivity of the authorized motor vehicle license plate shall be strictly prohibited," it warned.
On the other hand, the LTO said motorists need not surrender the old license plates.
It added the new plates shall have the same alphanumeric characters as the old plates. — Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
