Ambush injuries kill San Carlos mayor
After being shot at a fiesta last Saturday night, San Carlos City Mayor Julian Resuello succumbed to his injuries at a hospital in Quezon City Monday morning. The mayor and five other persons were wounded, while a civilian aide was killed, in the attack by still unidentified gunmen. Resuello's son, San Carlos City vice mayor Julier Resuello, said Monday morning that his father died at the St. Luke's Medical Center (SLMC) at 7 a.m. "Pumanaw na ang pinakamamahal naming mayor ng San Carlos City, mga 7 a.m. Kahapon airlifted siya from San Carlos to St. Luke's mga 10 a.m. Sunday (My beloved father and beloved mayor died at 7 a.m. He was airlifted to SLMC from San Carlos City at 10 a.m. Sunday)," he said in an interview on dzBB radio. He said the family plans to immediately bring the mayor's remains to his home city. "Maraming kababayan gusto makita ang pinakamamahal na alkalde hanggang sa huling hantungan niya. Ang mayor namin yan po ay napakabuting tao (Many of our residents love him and want him buried in the city. The mayor was a very good man)," he said. The mayor was among at least six persons wounded in Saturday's attack that killed at least one of his civilian aides. Police are still trying to track down his killers and said that they are mulling over the possibility of placing other areas in Pangasinan under Commission on Elections control due to poll-related violence. Julier said he will meet with his party-mates from the Lakas CMD to determine who will replace his father in the party's ticket. The elder Resuello "switched" places with his son and is running for vice mayor. The younger Resuello is running for mayor. "Paguusap-usapan sa partido anong gagawin namin. Being chairman of Lakas-CMD in the city ako ang pinakaulo ng Lakas (We'll talk among ourselves in the party. As chairman of Lakas-CMD in the city I am the highest-ranking party official here. So we'll talk about our plans)," the younger Resuello said when asked about their political plans. - GMANews.TV
