Cardinal Tagle clarifies confusion: Thanks, but it's not my birthday

Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Tagle clarified that it is not his birthday on Saturday following the confusion that stemmed from Pope Francis' announcement at Palo Cathedral in Leyte.

 

Speaking in Spanish, the Pope got the faithful of Palo to sing "Happy birthday" for Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin.

 

 

As translated by Monsignor Mark Gerard Miles, the Pope said, "The Cardinal walking down here [beside Cardinal Tagle] is the secretary of state and today is his birthday."

 

The television cameras then focused on the Filipino cardinal upon hearing the Pope mention his name instead of Parolin.

 

To clear up the misunderstanding, Tagle posted in his Facebook page a message saying that it is not actually his birthday. His birthday is on June 21.
