JV Ejercito and Jinggoy agree on one thing: Erap Estrada should retire in 2016
By AMITA O. LEGASPI, GMA News
Hours after the Supreme Court gave what could be the last word on the restoration of his right to run for office, one of his sons in the Senate said it was his family's wish that Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada bow out of politics in 2016 rather than run for higher office.
“Sa tingin ko magreretire na siya, yun ang gusto ng family. 79 years old na siya e, tama na sigurong enjoy-in yung retirement,” Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito told reporters.
“Sa tingin ko magreretire na siya, yun ang gusto ng family. 79 years old na siya e, tama na sigurong enjoy-in yung retirement,” Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito told reporters.
Ejercito, whose less than amiable relationship with Sen. Jinggoy Estrada is not a secret, added that if there was one thing he and his brother agree on, it is the wish that their father would retire after his term as Manila mayor ends.
“Even Senator Jinggoy kahit hindi kami magkasundo, dun lang kami nagkasundo. Parehong ayaw namin siyang tumakbo na e. Kasi gusto namin magretire na, nothing more to prove in terms of politics,” Ejericto said.
Ejercito said their father also achieved vindication when he placed second behind President Benigno Aquino III in the 2010 elections.
Joseph Estrada was ousted in 2001 and was convicted of plunder in 2007.
He has continued to deny the allegations that he benefitted from the illegal numbers game jueteng and engaged in other forms of corruption.
Then President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo shortly pardoned Estrada shortly after his conviction. —NB, GMA News
