PNP spokesperson, intelligence officer swap posts

The Philippine National Police on Wednesday announced that Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. has replaced Chief Supt. Wilben Mayor as the officer-in-charge for PNP's Public information Office.

In turn, Mayor replaced Cerbo as the new officer-in-charge deputy director of the PNP Directorate for Intelligence.

This is according to a designation order released on Wednesday, which was posted on radio dzBB's Twitter account.

Mayor was named the PNP's spokesperson in 2014, replacing Chief Supt. Reuben Theodore Sindac.

Meanwhile, Cerbo was PNP's spokesperson before he was replaced by Sindac in 2013.

The swapping of positions occurred less than a week after 44 elite members of the PNP's Special Action Force were killed in an encounter with Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.

The government has signed a peace agreement with the MILF in March last year, offering the group greater autonomy, economic and political power in return for the rebels surrendering their weapons and ending a decades-long insurgency. —NB, GMA News
