Cayetano namesake can still appeal DQ decision

Outgoing Taguig-Pateros Rep. Alan Peter Cayetano of the Genuine Opposition cannot relax just yet. His nemesis, Joselito Pepito "Peter" Cayetano of the Kilusang Bagong Lipunan is not yet permanently disqualified from the senatorial race. Quoting James Jimenez, spokesman of the Commission on Elections, radio dzBB said on Saturday that Joselito is given five more days to appeal the poll body's decision, which removed his name from the list of senatorial candidates for the May 14 midterm elections. DzBB further quoted Jimenez as saying that ballots with only "Cayetano" written on them will be considered "stray votes" and thus will not be counted in favor of Alan or Joselito. According to GMA's Flash Report Saturday afternoon, Comelec law department director Alioden Dalaig issued a memorandum that Joselito still has five days to appeal the en banc decision of the poll body. For his part, Alan appealed to the electorate to write his full name in the ballot to ensure that their votes will be counted in his favor. - GMANews.TV
