Is this Marwan? Purported photo of slain terrorist circulates online

While authorities have yet to officially confirm the death of international terrorist Malaysian Zulkifli Bin Hir alias Marwan, a photograph of a dead man said to be him is circulating online.

Relieved chief of the Philippine National Police-Special Action Force Director Getulio Napeñas earlier claimed that his men were able to kill Marwan, who was holed up in Mamasapano, Maguindanao, before the members of the elite police squad got caught in a firefight with members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters on Sunday.

The operation led to the death of 44 PNP-SAF members.

The purported Marwan photo featured a man sprawled on the floor, with blood all over his face and body. The picture also showed a man in military uniform holding firearms.

A source told GMA News stringer Mark Navales that the photo was believed taken by one of the raiders. The source added that the raiding team reportedly cut off one of Zulkifli's fingers so it can be used for DNA analysis.

The Armed Forces did not confirm if it was indeed Marwan in the picture.

“We could not confirm it because we don't know him. We are also awaiting for the result of the DNA testing,” AFP spokesman  Lt. Col. Harold Cabunoc said in a text message to GMA News Online.

The PNP, on the other hand, has yet to reply to inquiries.

Earlier, a source of GMA News said that DNA samples from the alleged body of Marwan have been sent to the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation for analysis and confirmation.

Another source, meanwhile, said the body was not of Marwan, but that of one of his aides.
