Ordinary citizens can urge House members to donate part of their salaries as part of House Resolution 1865, which may raise P2.9 million for the families should all 290 representatives agree to the resolution.
More privately-owned companies could also be campaigned to donate to the cause and follow the example of Uber Manila and Starbucks Philippines, which both earmarked their incomes during the national day of mourning last Friday for the Fallen 44.
At least P2 million in benefits assured for police kin
The PNP Public Information Office wrote on Friday that the families of policemen killed in the line of duty will receive death benefits, including:
"P250,000.00 from the President's Social Fund; between P141,000.00 up to P181,000.00 as Special Financial Assistance (SFA) from the PNP; burial benefits worth P50,000.00; and P200,000.00 gratuity from the National Police Commission."
For the families, a lifetime monthly pension of P15,000 to P25,000 will be granted by the PNP and a separate five-year one from Napolcom.
Families of police officers who are members of the Public Safety Mutual Benefit Fund will also receive death insurance from P225,000 to P417,000.
Aside from the Medalya ng Katapangan, new ranks were conferred to all 44 policemen, scaling their surviving kin's financial benefits and pensions to their new ranks.
Send prayers their way
Manila Archbishop Luis Antonio Cardinal Tagle on Friday urged the faithful to include the 44 in Masses and prayers beyond the national day of mourning, radio dzBB's Glen Juego reported.
"Let us pray also for a change of heart in those who committed this inhuman act. As a people let us work for justice, truth, freedom & love so that true peace may reign. Let not precious lives be wasted again! May The Lord grant us mercy and peace!" said Tagle in a separate message. — Rie Takumi/VC, GMA News
