Cops catch supporters in last minute campaigning

A supporter of Pasay City mayoral candidate Allan Panaligan was arrested while several poster boys “eluded" arrest in Manila as a wave of last-minute campaigning hit Metro Manila hours before polling centers opened at 7 a.m. Monday. Radio DZBB reported that the incidents occurred despite repeated claims by the Commission on Elections (Comelec) and the police ensuring clean and honest elections this year. In Pasay City, village officials caught one Angelito Cruz, 28, sticking campaign posters for Panaligan along Lakandula Street in Barangay 66 in the city. Cruz was said to be drunk when he was caught. At least two of his companions who were also sticking posters managed to run and elude arrest. Seized from Cruz were 76 posters of Panaligan, who was tapped to replace dismissed mayor Wenceslao Trinidad. Cruz is said to be a protégé of Panaligan. In Manila, the DZBB report said media chanced upon several “poster boys" sticking posters and campaign materials near at least two schools in the city. The boys were reportedly riding a multi-cab of candidates for city councilor. The multi-cabs reportedly contained at least two drums of paste. In the past several elections in Manila, schools serving as polling centers were littered with campaign materials of local bets. The DZBB report said one of the cabs was seen near the Del Pilar Elementary School in Manila’s Tondo district. A second was seen near the J. Rizal Elementary School in Tayuman, Tondo. In both instances, the poster boys fled in the multi-cabs when they saw media vehicles arrive at the scene. Still, no arrests were made in Manila as police claimed there was no complainant to file charges against the boys, or against the candidates. - GMANews.TV
