Pacquiao visits wounded SAF men at Camp Crame
Filipino boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao on Wednesday afternoon visited some of the Special Action Force members who were wounded in the January 25 encounter with Moro rebels in Mamasapano, Maguindanao.
Pacquiao arrived at the Philippine National Police General Hospital in Camp Crame, where some wounded SAF troopers have been confined, at around 4:40 p.m.
On January 25, the PNP-Special Action Force launched Oplan Exodus in Mamasapano town to arrest Malaysian terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir alias Marwan and Filipino bomb maker Abdul Basit Usman, who were holed up in the area.
The elite policemen managed to kill Marwan before a firefight against Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) and Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) erupted. Over 60 people were killed in the clash, 44 of them SAF members.
The clash cast a shadow on the peace negotiations between the government and the MILF and is now the subject of investigations. —KBK, GMA News
