Anti-porn group wants 'The Da Vinci Code' showing stopped

A conservative anti-pornography group on Wednesday expressed disapproval on the scheduled showing of the controversial movie, "The Da Vinci code," following the Catholic Church's call to boycott the movie, GMA7's 24 Oras reported. The Philippine Alliance Against Pornography (PAAP) branded the film as the highest form of pornography saying it (the movie) “could corrupt the mind of the young viewer." “Ang mga kabataan na mahihina pa ang paniniwala kay Kristo, their minds will be crowded, there will be a lot of question about Jesus. Marami ang malilito baka sakaling mamatay na rin ang kanilang pananampalataya," Aldo Filomeno, PAAP spokesman warned. Movie and Television Review for Classification Board (MTRCB) chairperson Maria Consoliza Laguardia said they will strictly scrutinize the movie if it is fit for public viewing. She explained that among the criteria that the MTRCB will be considering is the theme of the film and the language that was used. She said they will also look into whether the film could diminish a person’s dignity or not. “Dapat ma-review muna ng board huwag muna kaagad husgahan," she appealed. The film was based on a fiction novel written by author Dan Brown that focuses on an American professor who reportedly found out that Jesus was married to Mary Magdalene. The Catholic Bishops’ Conference of the Philippines also called on devout Catholics to refrain from reading the book and not watch the movie. Meanwhile, the ShoeMart management who controls 60 percent of movie houses in the country has vowed that they would not let the film be shown in their cinemas once the MTRCB rates it at R-18. The SM management said that if this happens, ticket sales for the movie will surely be affected.-GMANews,TV
