PNP to trace who issued misused gas coupon in viral Facebook post

The Philippine National Police will trace who among its officers allegedly misused his or her gas allocation coupons as indicated by a viral post on social media, GMA News' "24 Oras" reported on Friday.

PNP spokesman Chief Supt. Generoso Cerbo Jr. said the PNP's gas allocations could only be used for official vehicles or for private vehicles that will be used for police operations.

“Magco-conduct po tayo ng investigation at titiyakin natin kung ito nga ba ay nagamit sa maling pamamaraan,” Cerbo said.

Cerbo's remarks came after a photo purportedly showing PNP gas coupons used other than for official functions was posted in Top Gear Philippines' Facebook page and went viral.

“Gas supply when in PH.. Thanks Pa,” read the post's caption. Netizens reacted negatively to the post.

“It looks authentic pero titignan pa rin natin. With the serial number mati-trace natin,” Cerbo said.

He also said the gas coupons are distributed to various PNP offices as part of the agency's budget for police operations. —Andrei Medina/NBJST, GMA News
