Transport group asks to bring jeepney fare back to P8.50
Despite the announcement of a rollback for the price of diesel this week, a transport group is still pushing for its petition to bring the minimum fare for jeepneys back to P8.50.
A report on GMA News TV's News To Go on Monday said the Alliance of Concerned Transport Operators (ACTO) will be returning to the Land Transportation and Franchising Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to ask for the additional P1 in jeepney fare, from a decrease granted to commuters for Christmastime.
ACTO went to LTFRB for the request last Thursday, and will be going there again in a bid to speed up the approval of the increase, despite a projected 50-centavo per liter rollback in the price of diesel.
"Makikiusap na madaliin dahil nga nalalapit na naman ang bakasyon, baka naman hindi maibigay," ACTO national president Efren de Luna said in a phone interview with GMA News.
While diesel prices may decrease this week, a 10-centavo per liter increase is seen for gasoline and LPG, the report said.
On the other hand, two brands of milk and a brand of detergent will push through with its price decrease, attributed to low price of petroleum and raw materials, as well as the improving condition in ports. — Rose-An Jessica Dioquino/RSJ, GMA News
