DOLE: June 11 holiday workers get wages

The Labor Department on Friday said employees who show up for work on the upcoming June 11 holiday will be entitled to regular wages and, in some cases, up to more than double his or her daily wage. Labor Secretary Arturo Brion announced in an online statement the government's advisory for employee pay rules for June 11, which Malacañang declared as a non-working holiday. If the day is a regular workday for the employee and the employee works on that day, he or she gets 200 percent of the regular wage for that day. However, if the employee works in excess of eight hours, he or she receives the hourly wage for that day, which is 200 percent of his or her regular wage divided by eight, plus 30 percent of that hourly rate. On the other hand, if the day is the employee's rest day and the employee works on that day, he or she receives 260 percent of his or her regular wage. If the employee renders overtime work, he or she receives his or her hourly rate for that day, which is 260 percent of his or her regular wage divided by eight, plus 30 percent of that rate. Brion issued the rule after President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo declared June 11 a non-working holiday through Proclamation No. 1211. June 12 is Philippine Independence Day, which falls on a Tuesday. The Arroyo administration pushed the work break to Monday, June 11, so workers would have a longer, three-day weekend break. - GMANews.TV
