Revilla defense lawyers want Jolo to get well so Bong could focus on case
By PATRICIA DENISE CHIU, GMA News
Lawyers of detained Sen. Ramon "Bong" Revilla Jr. are among those praying for the recovery of Revilla’s son Cavite Vice Governor Jolo Revilla, so the senator can focus on his graft and plunder cases.
"I'd rather see Jolo back in shape so the Senator would not be tormented while awaiting trial of the cases against him. That'll give us the focus we need to prepare his defense," Atty. Ramon Esguerra told GMA News Online via text message Wednesday.
The elder Revilla is currently detained at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center over allegations of graft and plunder for supposedly siphoning off millions in public funds to bogus NGOs owned by businesswoman Janet Lim Napoles.
The younger Revilla is suffering from a gunshot wound to his upper right chest after he allegedly accidentally fired his gun while he was cleaning it Saturday morning at their home.
Esguerra also said they won’t be filing another motion for a temporary furlough for the senator, without ascertaining Jolo’s present condition.
"We will do so at the appropriate time. We are still determining exact medical condition of Vice Governor Jolo Revilla," Esguerra said.
However, in separate statements, the Revilla family’s spokesperson, Atty. Raymond Fortun, said the senator won’t be asking the court for permission to visit Jolo at all.
Still, despite Jolo’s improving condition, Esguerra says the senator remains worried.
"He of course remains very worried about the condition of his son. I was informed of how appreciative he is to the Court in allowing him to visit Jolo yesterday," Esguerra said. —JST, GMA News
