Dangerous cosmetic products still sold online, group laments
Cosmetic products banned by the Philippine Food and Drug Administration are still being sold online, an ecological group warned Sunday.
The EcoWaste Coalition said the products ranging from slimming coffee to body fat-burning orange juice find their way to sites like Lazada and OLX.
“We urge the management of these online retail sites to quickly remove advertisements for such dangerous products in light of the government-issued health directives and to impose sanctions that will bar the posting of such ads,” said coordinator Anthony Dizon.
He also urged authorities to "intervene and go after the traders to stop the unlawful cyber marketing.”
The group said it found the two online shopping sites selling skin-whitening and cosmetic products containing mercury; and slimming products with amphetamine, sibutramine and steroids.
Among the banned items sold online were:
- Angel Placenta Whitening Cream
- JJJ Magic Spots Removing Day and Night Cream
- Erna Whitening Cream
- S’Zitang and several variants of banned BG, Jiaoli and St. Dalfour skin whitening products
- Brazilian Slimming Coffee
- Leisure Burn Body Fat Orange Juice
- Leisure 18 Slimming Coffee
- Sehat Badan Powder.
The group also found sellers peddling online slimming products prohibited by Hong Kong’s Department of Health due to undeclared and banned drug ingredients sibutramine and phenolphthalein. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
