Trader nabbed for namedropping, shooting in QC bar
One month after a man claimed to be a defeated senatorial bet after figuring in a traffic altercation, another man tried to pass himself off as a nephew of a Cabinet secretary. Radio dzRH reported Sunday that the incident took place at a bar in Quezon City, where the namedropper even accidentally shot his own companion with a handgun. Police initially identified the suspect as Carl Dominic Isla, a businessman from Makati City who tried to introduce himself as a nephew of defense secretary Hermogenes Ebdane Jr. Wounded was Islaâs companion initially identified as Mayor Mendoza, who sustained a gunshot wound in the hands and knees. Another unidentified companion eluded arrest. The incident happened after midnight Saturday, at the Marinara KTV bar in Quezon City. Initial investigation showed a drunk Isla, Mendoza and their unidentified companion went to the bar and tried to enter the bar without Isla surrendering his firearm. When the guard asked Isla to surrender his cal.-40 pistol, Isla refused, saying he was a nephew of Ebdane. This prompted the barâs management to call in the police. A police team arrived but Isla refused to surrender his firearm. A scuffle for the handgun occurred, and the firearm went off, hitting Mendoza. Police eventually subdued Isla and arrested him. Mendoza said he will not file charges against him, but police are preparing charges against him for violating the election gun ban. But police admitted they are still trying to determine if the firearm Isla had was licensed. At present, they could not do so as Islaâs companion ran off with it. Only last May 23, a man claiming to be Ricky Singson, a nephew of defeated senatorial bet Luis Singson and a son of Rep. Eric Singson, broke the taillights of a taxi he bumped in Mandaluyong City. The man even resisted efforts by police to settle the matter, and gave the taxi driver a P5,000 check that bounced. It turned out that the man was Richard Gonzales, who faces a string of criminal complaints ranging from swindling to rape. Gonzales was arrested earlier this month. - GMANews.TV
