Makati Acting Mayor Peña to DILG: Help stop suspended Mayor Binay
Makati City Vice Mayor Kid Peña said that he is going to meet with Department of the Interior and Local Government to seek their help so suspended Mayor Junjun Binay won't interfere with his duties as acting mayor.
Peña said in a report on GMA 7's "24 Oras" on Wednesday that Binay's decision to continue to act as the mayor of the city is usurpation of his authority as acting mayor.
"Humihiling ako sa DILG na alalayan din naman ako para 'yung trabaho ko hindi ma-hamper at masabihan si Mayor Junjun na 'wag mag-interfere... On my part as acting mayor, usurpation 'yung kanya ng authority ko ngayon dahil suspended siya," he said in a report on GMA 7's "24 Oras" on Wednesday.
The row of the two top officials of Makati City started when the DILG served on March 16 the Office of Ombudsman's six-month preventive suspension order against Binay over corruption allegations.
Morning of that day, Peña was sworn in as Makati's acting mayor. Then in the afternoon, the Court of Appeals issued a temporary restraining order.
DILG stood by its decision and told Peña to continue his job as acting mayor of Makati City.
But Binay is still doing his job as mayor of the city, saying he got the CA's TRO to prove he is not suspended. He even recently signed the release of payroll funds for the City Hall's employees. — Trisha Macas/ELR, GMA News
