College student shot dead in riot, hours to class opening
A 22-year-old college student won't be joining his classmates on the first day of college classes, after he was shot dead in a riot in Manila's Tondo district before dawn Wednesday. Radio dzRH reported that the victim, initially identified as Jensen Lunag, 22, a student of AMA University, was shot in the head with a "sumpak" or improvised shotgun. The Manila Police District (MPD) said the incident took place at about 4 a.m. at the corner of Lualhati and Lakandula Streets in Tondo, Manila. Police homicide investigators SPO4 Alfredo Salazar and PO3 Joseph Cabigting initially identified the suspects as Lian and Jun-jun Bukol, supposedly of the Devil Black Mafia Gang. Initial investigation showed Lunag had tried to settle his differences with the suspects a few hours before the riot, and was walking home when the suspects confronted him again. The confrontation escalated into a riot where the suspects beat up Lunag then shot him in the head, then fled. - GMANews.TV
