Short circuit caused air mail distribution center fire - probers


Arson investigators have traced to an electrical short circuit the fire that destroyed the Philippine Postal Office at the Manila Domestic Airport in Pasay City late Tuesday night. Radio dzBB reported Wednesday morning that the fire, which reached the second alarm, also destroyed virtually all the parcels stored inside the facility. It said firefighters were nevertheless thankful that the fire did not spread to a nearby gasoline station, just 20 meters away from the building. The dzBB report said arson investigators have yet to come up with an estimate on the damage caused by the fire. Initial investigation showed the fire started at about 11:38 p.m., and reached the second alarm before firefighters put it out after 40 minutes.
