Intensity 6 earthquake hits S Leyte


An intensity 6 earthquake jolted St. Bernard town in Southern Leyte province late Wednesday night, radio DZBB reported early Friday. No casualty or damage to property was reported so far. Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology officer in charge Ismael Narag told DZBB that the quake, which struck at 10:49 p.m., was tectonic in origin and its epicenter was plotted 42 kilometers northeast of Maasin. Narag said intensity 6 quake was felt in St. Bernard - where the 2006 landslide buried an entire village - while intensity 5 jolted San Francisco, San Juan towns in Southern Leyte. Intensity 3 quake was also felt in Surigao City; Dulag, Palo in Southern Leyte and Cebu and Tacloban. Phivolcs said people in those areas should expect aftershocks within the next few hours. - GMANews.TV
