Motorcycle drag racers play at Macapagal Blvd.

Drag racers not only use souped-up cars, they surge to potentially deadly speeds in high-powered motorcycles too, GMA 7's 24 Oras reported Monday. Despite an offical ban on drag racing in Metro Manila, the roar of racing motorcycles will greet those who pass by the President Diosdado Macapagal Boulevard in Pasay City in the wee hours of the morning. Bets are substantial and up to P300,000 could be at stake in one race. Drag racers from different parts of the capital and even in the nearby provinces converge at the Macapagal boulevard to strut off each other's motorcycles. “Sinusubukan namin ang mga motor naming kung gaano kalakas," a drag racer told GMA News. Drag racers said they only want to have a good time, ignoring previous reports of deaths and injuries to those who take part in the banned races. The other favorite hangout of drag racers is Marcos Highway in Antipolo, Rizal. Government and police officials already warned of the risks of drag racing but this has not stopped racers. Senator Ramon Revilla Jr on March 2005 filed Senate Bill 1955 to prohibit illegal drug races but the proposed law remains pending.-GMANews.TV
