PNoy: Next Civil Service Commission chief already chosen

(Updated 2:53 p.m.) TARLAC CITY - President Benigno Aquino III on Friday said he has already chosen a new head for the Civil Service Commission (CSC).

At a media briefing, Aquino said the selection process for the next CSC chief was already “done,” although he refused to name the new official.

He nevertheless indicated that appointing the new CSC chief will require reshuffling current government officials.

“Sa CSC, more or less, done na rin ‘yon. Magkakaroon ng vacancies na kailangan punuin rin para hindi mabakante ‘yung panggagalingan nitong taong ito,” Aquino said.

The CSC is the Philippine government’s central personnel agency tasked to promote the efficiency and the morale of the bureaucracy. The commission’s chief shall serve a seven-year term, in accordance with the 1987 Constitution.

Earlier this month, Aquino said he is considering Communications Secretary Herminio Coloma for the CSC’s top post. Coloma has repeatedly deferred comment on the matter.

Last February 2, CSC chairman Francisco Duque III stepped down after five years at the post to finish the unexpired term of his predecessor, Ricardo Saludo, who had failed to get the nod of the bicameral Commission on Appointments.

Aquino also has yet to appoint the heads of the Commission on Elections and the Philippine National Police. — RSJ, GMA News
