FDA warns vs. 9 cosmetic products with toxic lead, mercury levels

(UPDATED 7:50 p.m.) Consumers were warned Tuesday against a new batch of cosmetic products that may have “toxic” levels of lead and mercury.

 

The Food and Drug Administration listed these in Advisory 2015-025 dated May 4, the PDF file of which it posted on its website early Wednesday.

 

It said the products had “high levels of lead beyond the 20 parts per million” set by the Association of Southeast Asian Nations Cosmetic Directives.

 

Some products tested negative for mercury, however.

 

Nine products that were without FDA notification include :

 

1. Qianyan Daily Night Special Anti-Speckle Beauty Cream

2. Monaliza Series Lipstick #5

3. Miss Merry Lipstick #03

4. Miss Merry Lipstick #05

5. Meiya Lipstick #02 (pink container)

6. Meiya Lipstick #02 (pink/gold container)

7. Meiya Lipstick #06 (pink container)

8. Meiya Lipstick #02 (silver/red container)

9. Ashley UV Resitance BB Whitening Spray

 

Heavy metals

 

Meanwhile, the FDA also listed products without FDA notification that it said contained heavy metals beyond the allowable limit:

The FDA said it has ordered its field regulatory officers to seize such products without FDA certificate of product notification.

 

The FDA also sought help from local government units in ensuring such products are not sold by ambulant and sidewalk vendors.
