Warship USS Shiloh making port call in Subic this weekend

The US warship USS Shiloh (CG-67) is due to make a port call in Subic Bay this weekend, the US Embassy in Manila said Friday.

According to the embassy, the "routinely scheduled" port visit will let the ship replenish supplies and strengthen people-to-people ties through community outreach.

Of the vessel's 360 crew members, 31 are Filipino-American and will have "the opportunity to briefly experience Filipino culture, which is reflective of strong historic, community, and military connections."

Commissioned on July 18, 1992, USS Shiloh is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser. It is a multi-role warship that can handle threats in the air, on sea, or ashore.

The vessel's visit is part of an ongoing patrol in the Pacific theater.

USS Shiloh is part of the forward-deployed Naval Forces of the US 7th Fleet, the US Department of Defense unified combatant command for the overall stability of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.

Named in remembrance of the American Civil War battle, it is based in Yokosuka, Japan and is commanded by Captain Kurush Morris.  —  Joel Locsin/LBG, GMA News
