Missile cruiser USS Shiloh arrives in Subic Bay for port call
The United States' missile cruiser USS Shiloh (CG-67) arrived Saturday morning in Subic Bay to make a port call, a television report said.
According to "News TV Live, the "routinely scheduled" port visit will let the ship replenish supplies and strengthen people-to-people ties through community outreach.
The warship's arrival in the country coincided with the US call on Saturday for an "immediate and lasting halt" to China's reclamation works in disputed areas in the West Philippine Sea.
But the report, quoting the Philippine Navy public affairs office, said the ship will immediately leave after conducting a routine maintenance and replenishment.
Commissioned on July 18, 1992, USS Shiloh is a Ticonderoga-class guided missile cruiser. It is a multi-role warship that can handle threats in the air, on sea, or ashore.
It has two SH-60 Seahawk multi-purpose helicopters, used primarily for anti-submarine warfare.
The vessel's visit is part of an ongoing patrol in the Pacific theater.
USS Shiloh is part of the forward-deployed Naval Forces of the US 7th Fleet, the US Department of Defense unified combatant command for the overall stability of the Indo-Asia-Pacific region.
Named in remembrance of the American Civil War battle, it is based in Yokosuka, Japan and is commanded by Captain Kurush Morris. — Amanda Fernandez/LBG, GMA News
