Palace welcomes report PHL improves in Rule of Law Index 2015

Malacañang on Saturday welcomed the report indicating the Philippines improved its status in this year's World Justice Project-Rule of Law of Index.

Deputy presidential spokesperson Abigail Valte said the report "is good for us because we do keep making improvements when it comes to these matters."

The Philippines ranked 51st out of 102 countries on the Rule of Law Index 2015.

Ranking only 60th among 99 countries in 2014, the Philippine this year is also most improved among member-countries of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN), and 9th out of 15 countries in East Asia and the Pacific this year.

However, Valte said there are still other categories, including order and security (58th) and criminal justice (66th) in the report, on which the Philippines needs to improve.

"Siyempre we have to pay special attention to the some of the less favorable observations and see how we are able to improve them and what we can do in order to improve on these areas," she said.

Moreover, she said some of the issues that needs improvement does not fall under the executive's responsibility.

"We do hope that offices and some agencies that can contribute to the improvements of these points of concern will take a look at them and see how they can...  we can refine processes to improve on these points," she said. "Kasi siyempre hindi naman lahat nasa ilalim 'nung executive."

"We are hoping that all of the agencies and all of the other offices concerned can pitch in," she added.

Other categories and the Philippines' rank in them are:

Absence of Corruption - 47th
Open Government - 50th
Regulatory Enforcement - 52nd
Fundamental Rights - 67th
Civil Justice - 75th
