UP, Ateneo, UST, improve scores in intl ranking but DLSU slips


The Philippines' top four universities remained among the leading 200 in Asia, according to latest findings of an “opt-in” international ranking based on reputational inputs, as well as data on research and cross-border exchanges.
 
University of the Philippines, Ateneo de Manila University and University of Santo Tomas all saw their respective aggregate scores gradually improve in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) ranking of Asian universities. 
 
Scores of De La Salle University were not available but it slipped significantly on the QS ladder from the rungs of the 151-160 cluster to the 181-190 cluster. 
 
The UP total score rose to 62 from 60.7 last year, but it slid seven steps down to 70th from its 63rd ranking last year. 
 
Ateneo's score also improved as its inched up to 48.30 from 46.4 in 2014—giving the university a boost to 114th from 115th.
 
UST's score was up to 43.5 from 42.4, but its ranking improved seven places to 143rd from 150th.
 
Academic reputation, which accounts for 30 percent of the total score and has the biggest chunk among the different assessment categories, is where UP is the strongest compared to the other three.
 
UP's academic reputation score is 86 while Ateneo got 65.3. UST came in with 43.8. 
 
UP also edged out Ateneo in terms of employer reputation—a score of 87.5 versus  86.0.

Employer reputation accounts for 10 percent of the total score.

The top five universities in Asia according to QS are the following: 
 
  • National University of Singapore (NUS) - Singapore 
  • The University of Hong Kong - Hong Kong 
  • Korea Advanced Institute of Science & Technology (KAIST) - South Korea
  • Nanyang Technological University (NTU) - Singapore
  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology - Hong Kong
