It seems a reconciliation between Senators Joseph Victor Ejercito and Jinggoy Estrada is in the offing.
Ejercito said Tuesday there was an improvement in his relationship with his brother when the latter expressed support for the candidacy of his mother, San Juan City Mayor Guia Gomez. Gomez will be seeking her third term in 2016.
“Because of the recent events, probably this would pave way (to a reconciliation) but I would not say na reconciled na kami. Hopefully kung iyong local na politics ang naging dahilan ng hidwaan namin, baka ito rin ang dahilan para magkaayusan kami,” he said during the weekly Kapihan sa Senado.
Ejercito said the candidacy of his mother is being threatened by their former ally, whom he did not name.
He said Estrada mentioned his support for Gomez’ candidacy when the latter, together with San Juan barangay officials, visited the detained senator at the Philippine National Police Custodial Center last June 12.
“His words were ibang usapan na iyan, pamilya na iyan. He (Jinggoy) already committed na he would be 100 percent supportive of my mother. Malaking factor sa akin iyong pagsuporta niya. So kung local politics and naging hidwaan namin, siguro because of local politics, we will be able to patch things up,” the senator said.
He said he attempted to visit Estrada but the jail custodians did not allow him in because it was already past visiting hours.
“Siguro mga 5:30 pm na ako dumating. Naghintay ako ng mga three hours pero hindi pa rin ako pinapasok,” he said.
He added that his father, former President and incumbent Manila Mayor Joseph Estrada, was with him while he was waiting.
“Ilang beses na niyang sinabi na iyon ang pinaka frustration niya, iyong hindi kami magkabati. We don’t really have to be chummy. At least magkaayos na kami, that would be a good start,” he said.
He expressed hope that he would be able to talk to his brother the next time he visits.
“The thought was there naman, sana makapasok na ako sa susunod,” he said.
