Lacierda siblings split political affiliations: Sister of PNoy’s spokesperson sides with Binay

The sister of presidential spokesperson Edwin Lacierda will be backing the presidential bid of Vice President Jejomar Binay in 2016 instead of the candidate who will be anointed by her brother’s boss, President Benigno Aquino III.

Rose Lacierda Uy openly showed her support for Binay by attending the launch Wednesday of his political party, the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA). She was seated on the front row behind the stage at the Makati Coliseum with some friends.

“I believe in his (Binay’s) political agenda,” she said when asked for her reason for supporting the Vice President.

Lacierda Uy said she didn’t ask for her brother’s permission before showing up at the event, which was also graced by opposition stalwarts such as boxing icon and Sarangani Rep. Manny Pacquiao, Senators Gringo Honasan and Joseph Victor Ejercito, former Senate President Ernesto Maceda, and Reps. Toby Tiangco and Gwendolyn Garcia.

“To each his own kami. Doon siya [sa administration], dito ako,” she said of her brother.

Despite the different political affiliation,s Lacierda Uy said she and her brother do not have any rift or misunderstanding with each other.

Lacierda is identified with the the so-called Balay group which backed the tandem of Presidentd Benigno Aquino III and now-Interior Secretary Mar Roxas in the 2010 elections. The group is named after Roxas’ residence in Quezon City where its meetings were held during the previous national elections.

The Interior Secretary is expected to officially announce his candidacy soon as the standard bearer of the Liberal Party in the 2016 polls.  — GMA News
