Mar Roxas on Vilma Santos as running mate: ‘Why not?’

Interior Sec. Mar Roxas said he is open to having Batangas Gov. Vilma Santos to be his running mate in the 2016 elections.

"Well, bakit naman hindi? It's not for me to say. Pero tignan na lang natin ang record," he told  reporters during the distribution of patrol jeeps at the Batangas City Provincial Capitol on Friday.  

Santos was a multi-awarded actress before entering politics.

Roxas cited Santos' years in service as the mayor of Lipa City and eventually as the governor of Batangas.

"A whole myriad of budgetary deficit to security, to agriculture, lahat iyan ay naharap niya. So, kung titignan, may kakayahan, may karanasan, may kaalaman kung ano ang gagawain. So, nasa sa kanya at nasa mga kababayan niya kung ano ang mangyayari," Roxas said.

Last month, Santos has denied rumors that she is planning to run as Davao City Mayor Rodrigo Duterte's partner.

When asked about updates on the possibility to run with Sen. Grace Poe or tap Duterte, Roxas did not give a categorical answer.

"Ang mahalaga dito ay ipagpatuloy natin ang napagtagumapayan na natin sa Daang Matuwid," Roxas said. —TriNB, GMA News
