Archbishop Villegas accepts 2nd term as CBCP president with hint of reluctance

Lingayen-Dagupan Archbishop Socrates Villegas on Sunday showed a hint of reluctance in accepting his second two-year mandate as president of the Catholic Bishops' Conference of the Philippines.

In a post on his Facebook account, Villegas indicated he "would have wanted" to rest and "take it more leisurely."

"When I see my weak self and my lack of experience, I am overcome with fear. I would have wanted to rest and take it more leisurely," he said.

But he said he has taken courage from God and accepted his post knowing many are praying for him.

"When I gaze on the face of God rich in mercy I take courage and regain my hope and courage. I accepted the reelection. I know many are praying for me. May awa ang Diyos!" he said.

Villegas was elected Sunday to a second two-year term as CBCP president. He is eligible for a maximum of two two-year terms at the post. —Joel Locsin/KG, GMA News
