Thousands of Filipino Muslims celebrate end of Ramadan




Thousands of Filipino Muslims in various parts of the country celebrated of the end of the annual fasting month of Ramadan through the feast of Eid'l Fitr, GMA News' “Balitanghali” reported Friday.

According to the report, the Moon Sighting Committee of the National Commission on the Muslim Filipinos saw the new moon around 8 p.m. on Thursday marking the end of Ramadan.

In Cotabato City, the Muslim community joined the traditional motorcade there that marked the beginning of Eid'l Fitr celebrations.

In Kidapawan City, North Cotabato hundreds of Muslims participated in the congregational prayer which filled up Lapu-Lapu street.

They included in their prayers the immediate passage of the Bangsamoro Basic Law which they expect to bring long lasting peace in the strife-torn region of Mindanao.

Meanwhile, thousands of Muslims joined the gathering at the Golden Mosque in Quiapo, Manila for the celebration of Eid'l Fitr.

The Blue Mosque in Maharlika Village, Taguig City was also crowded with Muslims who gathered to pray.

For Muslims, Eid'l Fitr does not simply mark the end of Ramadan but also signifies the beginning of their new lives ahead. -Andrei Medina/NB, GMA News
