PNP chief Marquez to increase police presence in communites

Newly appointed Philippine National Police chief Director General Ricardo Marquez said on Monday's episode of GMA News TV's State of the Nation with Jessica Soho that he was going to improve police visibility in communities to prevent crimes, and to build a stronger bond between the police force and the communities.

"Matagal ko na itong pangarap... Ayusin ang police presence, iyong police visbility, for some many reasons," Marquez said.

And having a connection to the community will also help prevent police misconduct, such as the alleged rubout of a suspect in Sampaloc, Manila by five police officers.

"Over and above investigating these incidents, punishing or dismissing some people, baka on the preventive, proactive side, meron kaming magagawa... Kung may issue na hindi pagtitiwala sa police, we have to regain the trust [of the community]," he said. — Trisha Macas/DVM, GMA News
