UNA: Was Grace Poe’s adoption legal?

The camp of Vice President Jejomar Binay continued to question Senator Grace Poe's fitness to run for higher office in the 2016 elections, GMA News' "24 Oras" reported on Wednesday.

Lawyer JV Bautista, secretary general of the United Nationalist Alliance (UNA), expressed doubt whether the adoption of Poe went through the correct legal process.

Binay is the opposition's presumptive standard bearer in the next year's presidential elections.

The senator, who adopted by the late actor Fernando Poe Jr. and his wife Susan Roces, was found abandoned as an infant at the Jaro Cathedral in Iloilo

Bautista said Poe's birth certificate indicated her birth date as September 3, 1968.

"September iyong birth certificate. December ikinasal (sila FPJ at Susan Roxas) so they're not even married. This raises a question of authenticity of the birth certificate na bakit nagka-ganoon? Are they really qualified in the first place to adopt?" the UNA official said.

The law provides that natural born-Filipinos are citizens whose parents are also Filipinos. Poe, however, never knew her biological parents, the report added. -Kathrina Charmaine Alvarez/NB, GMA News
