Andrea Rosal freed after being cleared of criminal raps

Andrea Rosal, the daughter of the former spokesperson of the New People's Army (NPA) Gregorio "Ka Roger" Rosal," was released after more than a year in jail.

In a tweet by National Union of Peoples'Lawyers (NUPL) Secretary General Edre Olalia, Rosal was released at 8:30 p.m. on Monday.

Olalia earlier reported that the daughter of the former spokesperson of the NPA was cleared of charges of murder by a Quezon court.

Rosal was eight months pregnant when she was arrested in Caloocan City in March 2014 for charges of kidnapping and murder.

She denied committing any of the crimes.

Her daughter died at the Philippine General Hospital shortly after she gave birth due to oxygen deficiency in the blood.

Militant groups blamed prison authorities for the baby's death, citing "unreasonable delays" in bringing Rosal to the hospital. -Trisha Macas/NB, GMA News
