Sheryl Cruz: Grace Poe and I are not sisters

Actress Sheryl Cruz does not find it funny that rumors persist about her being sisters with Senator Grace Poe.

GMA News TV's State of the Nation reported that Cruz is hurt by the rumors because they indicate her mother, the actress Rosemarie Sonora, had an extra-marital affair.

"We're cousins, yes, and wag nyo na kwestyunin ang pagmamahal ko sa aking ate," Cruz told reporters.

"Sinasabi nila sisters kami. No. We have different mothers and we have different parents. Respeto na lang sa aking ina," she added.

Cruz said that her mother had public appearances around the time Poe was born and these belie the allegations that the senator was Sonora's daughter.

Poe's mother Susan Roces and Sonora are sisters.

The senator was a foundling who was adopted by Roces and her late husband, actor Fernando Poe Jr.

Her qualification to be a senator is now the subject of a quo warranto case, questioning her citizenship because of her status as a foundling.

The case is seen to have serious implications on her intention to run for president in 2016.

Cruz believes the senator should give it more time before running for president.

"Ang gusto ko sana maglaan pa siya ng ilang taon," Cruz said.
