Administration bet Mar Roxas on Monday told members of the National Unity Party (NUP) that its members were never disadvantaged during the last five years of President Benigno Aquino III's administration.

"Alam n'yo po na hindi inagrabyado, hindi ni-raid ang NUP nitong nakaraang limang taon ni President Aquino. Lahat nagkaroon ng bottom up budgeting project, hindi tinanong kung anong kulay ng chaleco o kung nanalo ba si Noynoy o Mar sa lugar n'yo," Roxas said in a speech as he woos at least 500 members of the NUP to support his candidacy in 2016.

The gathering at the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila in Pasay City was also attended by Vice President Jejomar Binay and Sen. Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr.

Roxas added: "Pantay pantay ang pagtingin sa lahat ng bayan ay respeto sa mga partido. 'Yan ang tatak ng Daang Matuwid."

He noted that NUP members were part of the projects and programs implemented by the government including PhilHealth and the conditional cash transfer.

"Dahil dito malakas ang loob ko, bilang respeto sa inyong partido, na hingin ang inyong matamis na 'oo' sa pagpapatuloy ng Daang Matuwid sa 2016," said Roxas.

In introducing Roxas, NUP member and Capiz Rep. Fred Castro described him an "aswang" who is thirsty to serve the people.

The NUP, which was declared a national political party by the Commission on Elections in 2011, is composed of members of the Kabalikat ng Malayang Pilipino (Kampi), party of former President Gloria Macapagal Arroyo.

When Aquino was elected into office, Arroyo was arrested and detained on election sabotage and corruption charges.

The party is headed by its president, Bataan Governor Albert Garcia with Cavite Rep. Elpidio Barzaga as vice president and chaired by Antipolo Rep. Roberto Puno.

NUP secretary Ronaldo Puno said they are looking for a candidate who can unify the country. —ALG, GMA News
