Carnapper nabbed after selling vehicle to original owner
A suspected carnapper was arrested by authorities after trying to sell a carnapped SUV to the victim their group allegedly stole it from, a report from GMA's “24 Oras” said Wednesday.
The report identified the suspect as Robert Fernandez who was caught with the help of the Special Operation Division of the Philippine National Police Highway Patrol Group.
The victim said his Toyota Fortuner was carnapped after parking at a coffee shop along E. Rodriguez Ave. in Quezon City last July 7.
“Pag diin ng baril sa dibdib ko, kinapkapan ako tsaka kinuha 'yung susi. Sumakay 'yung isa, pag start sumunod na rin nyung isa,” he said.
A week after, the victim said he was contacted by a seller who was offering the same model of his vehicle for P800,000.
He said that he recognized his stolen car after matching the chassis and engine number.
“Nagkaconvince kami, nagkatawaran siyempre P800,000. Nagkita kami sa Total sa Shaw Boulevard malapit sa JRU,” he said.
Aside from the vehicle, a firearm was also retrieved from the suspect who was also positively identified by a cop that he allegedly victimized a day after the first incident.
The cop said the Land Cruiser he was driving as an escort for a VIP was stolen by the suspect and his group.
“Hindi na rin ako nakapalag kasi hinahawakan na ako at tsaka nakatutok. Pag hawak ng isa sa leeg ko, pinaikot ako, doon ko nakita 'yung kasama nilang matangkad na naka t-shirt ng puti. Yun lang ang naaninag ko ang mukha,” he said.
“Iniisip ko noon pagkalaglag sa akin doon na ako babarilin. Eh Biglang humarurot 'yung sasakyan,” he added.
The suspect is facing Illegal possession of firearm and ammunition charges along with violation of the, Anti-Carnapping Law, Anti-Fencing Law and falsification of documents. — Andrei Medina/ELR, GMA News
