3-year-old girl kidnapped, released after ransom payment

A three-year-old girl was kidnapped last Thursday and later released after the victim's family paid an undisclosed amount of ransom, GMA News reported on Wednesday.

At the request of the victim's family and the police, GMA News did not disclose any details that would identify the kidnapped child, her family, and their community.

GMA News said in its report on the newscast, "24 Oras", that it learned of the kidnapping after its reporter Emil Sumangil received from a “concerned citizen” closed-circuit TV (CCTV) video that showed how the child was kidnapped last November 12.

CCTV footage showed the victim and her grandmother about to cross the street to the day care center where the child was a pupil when a white van rushed in front of them.

A few hours later, grandmother and granddaughter came from the day care center and as soon as they had crossed the street, the same white van the footage earlier showed stopped in front of them.

A man could be seen getting off from the van, which then sped away, leaving the victim's grandmother running after the van as she called for help.

There was at least one male neighbor who came into the view of the CCTV camera after witnessing the kidnapping incident.

The victim and her family have left their home and community, neighbors told GMA News on condition of anonymity.  — ELR, GMA News
