Japan's First Lady Akie Abe moved to tears in visit with Manila streetchildren

Japan's First Lady,  Akie Abe, was moved to tears Thursday when Filipino street children serenaded her and shared their life stories during her visit to their foster care shelter in Blumentritt, Manila.

Abe accompanied her husband Prime Minister Shinzo Abe who is attending the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Meeting hosted by the Philippines in Manila.

Mrs. Abe cried as the street children sang to her and as she listened to them recounting their experiences, an exclusive report by Saleema Refran on GMA News'  early evening newscast "24 Oras" said.

During her visit to the shelter, Abe helped give school supplies to its wards. She also expressed her affection by hugging the kids.

Japan's First Lady also visited a community in Payatas, Quezon City supported by the Japanese NGO Salt Payatas Foundation Inc., a non-government organization that has been providing scholarships and livelihood opportunities, particularly for women in the area, since 1995.  — Trisha Macas/ELR, GMA News
