Comelec chief in Taiwan to inspect Smartmatic factory

Commission on Elections chairman Andres Bautista is in Taiwan to inspect the factory of Smartmatic's electronic voting machines, a report on News TV Live said Friday.

The report said Bautista went to Taiwan upon Smartmatic's invitation to check the production of the optical mark readers that will be used in the upcoming 2016 presidential elections.

Smartmatic also invited other Comelec personnel, the joint Congressional oversight committee and members of the media, the same report said.

Smartmatic said the OMR machines in production will improve the Precinct Count Optical Scanners (PCOS) used during in the 2010 and 2013 general elections as the units have larger memory, faster processor speeds, and an internal battery.

Smartmatic earlier said the source code could not be hacked. — Rie Takumi/RSJ, GMA News
