Acetylene gang robs P3-M from QC pawnshop

A pawnshop in Quezon City was broken into by a so-called Acetylene gangthat carted away about P3 million of the establishment's earnings, according to a report by Tina Panganiban-Perez in GMA's “24 Oras”on Thursday.

Employees of Casquejo pawnshop, located along Murphy road in Cubao, said they saw a hole on the floor when they reported for work on New Year's Eve. They added that the hole was connected to the sewer system.

“Tapos noong pumasok kami nakita ko nga lahat ng mga calendar namin nakapasok [sa] lahat ng butas, lahat palibot,” said Nelida Cabiling, an employee.

“Dumating na sila, 'yung may ari, si bossing. Binuksan na 'yung pinto pero konti lang kasi kita na 'yung butas dito [na pinasukan ng mga magnanakaw],” she added.

The establishment's CCTV footage showed two men emerging from the hole after the employees left.

Quezon City Police District (QCPD) personnel are reviewing the CCTV footage to identify the suspects.

They also opened the manholes near the establishment and discovered that tunnels were dug out and that these led to other pawnshops in the area.

“Halos nasa ano na kami, more than 150 meters na ng tracing doon sa ilalim ng imburnal,” QCPD Chief Insp. Marlou Martinez said.

Recovered from the sewers were plastic bags containing loose change amounting to P8,000 and the acetylene torch believed to have been used by the suspects to create the hole. — Drei Medina, BAP, GMA News
