GUAM, NOT ILOCOS NORTE

PNP to coordinate with Interpol in probing indiscriminate firing incident

The Philippine National Police said it plans to coordinate with Interpol to determine the exact venue in Guam where an incident of indiscriminate firing was caught on video, a report on News To Go on Tuesday said.

Police Supt. Jay Guillermo of the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group confirmed in an interview Tuesday with Prof. Winnie Monsod on Unang Hirit that the incident happened in Guam, the report said.

He added they were able to conclude this after checking the license plates of the vehicles seen in the viral video.

Guillermo also said they checked the Facebook account of the person who originally posted the video and determined he resides in Guam.

He added they were also able to identify the people in the video.

Although the people spoke Ilocano in the video, they also spoke in English.

Guillermo, who is also an Ilocano, said he could understand the dialogue in the video. The people said this is how it really is to celebrate the New Year in Guam, he said.

In an earlier report, the Ilocos Norte PNP said the incident did not happen in their province even if the people spoke Ilocano in the video.

The PNP said those behind the incident will be held accountable. —KG, GMA News
