Comelec commissioner Guanzon says Miriam Santiago is her idol

Commission on Elections Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said she looks up to Senator Miriam Defensor Santiago.

In an interview with dzBB radio Sunday, Guanzon didn’t mince words when she reproached poll body chairman Andres Bautista for sending her a memorandum over her filing of a comment with the Supreme Court on Senator Grace Poe’s cases without Bautista’s signature.

She also dared Poe’s camp to name the Comelec commissioners they suspect to be working for the senator’s disqualification from the 2016 presidential race.

Towards the end of the interview, a dzBB listener told host Nimfa Ravelo that Guanzon could pass off as the "Miriam Santiago of the Comelec."

In response, the commissioner laughed and revealed that Santiago is indeed her idol.

“Idol ko kaya si ma’am. I’m wishing her well,” she said.

Aside from being both lawyers, Guanzon said she and Santiago share a number of things in common, such as having roots in Iloilo and graduating from the University of the Philippines College of Law.

The commissioner expressed her wish for Santiago to have a long life and good health.

“I’m praying for her health… I really wish her a longer life. I pray that she will have a longer life for the service of the country,” Guanzon said.
