OTHERS GET DISTINGUISHED CONDUCT MEDALS

A year after Mamasapano, two of SAF 44 get posthumous medals of valor

Two members of the so-called SAF 44 will be posthumously awarded the PNP's Medal of Valor for their role in the Mamasapano operation that resulted in the death of international terrorist Zulkifli bin Hir on January 25, 2015.

Senior Inspector Gednat Tabdi at PO2 Romeo Cempron will be given the highest honor in the PNP, according to GMA News TV's "State of the Nation."

Tabdi was the leader of Team 1 of the 84th Special Action Company. Even when he was already wounded, Tabdi still led his team to accomplish its mission.

Cempron, on the other hand, was the lead gunner of the main effort of the 55th Special Action Company.

When his fellow commandos were already dying, he sacrificed himself as a human shield in order for survivor PO2 Christopher Lalan to move to safety.

Tabdi and Cempron's families will also receive a lifetime monthly pension of P20,000.

The rest of the SAF 44 will receive posthumous distinguished conduct medals. -NB, GMA News
